Taphonomy
Understanding change after death.
Taphonomy examines the processes that affect organisms after death, including decomposition and the influence of environmental conditions.
Dedicated research facilities provide settings in which these processes can be studied. This work can help develop knowledge relevant to the interpretation of findings in missing-person investigations.
Research questions, methods, permissions, and ethical considerations must be defined for each individual project.
